BLOOMINGTON, IN- Last Wednesday there was a mournful silence in the IMU, where\u00a0students massed in a solemn remembrance of the IMU Burger King.<\/p>\n

The restaurant, known to senior Will Hyatt\u00a0as \u201cThe best place to roll into high\u00a0with a crisp five dollar bill at 9\u00a0am on a Tuesday,\u201d has closed down after years of serving\u00a0the IU and Bloomington\u00a0community. Junior Ralph Seisman refused to believe it:\u00a0\u201cI thought my roommate was lying to me at first, but I had to accept that I know a Whopper\u00ae when I hear it\u2026and that was the truth.\u201d<\/p>\n
The candlelight vigil was put together to bring the community together in the wake of its loss. Lacking\u00a0a snappy jingle to sing, the students instead read BK menu items together softly in mourning. \u201cI thought I could hold it together, but we got to \u2018Chicken Fries\u2019 and I just lost it,\u201d said alumna Stephanie Welch, weeping. \u201cThat Burger King was the cornerstone of my time here at IU. I was there when I met my boyfriend, I was there when we broke up over an order of fries he wouldn\u2019t share, and I was there the next week too.\u201d<\/p>\n
Sophomore Ethan Haste expressed his regret for not appreciating it enough. \u201cYeah, uh, I came out here to support the Pizza Hut, but Burger King was good too.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cYou know, I think there will always be a piece of me that never left that place,\u201d wept senior Mitch Sharpe. \u201cBut life goes on, and in the end, IU got to have it their way.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
