Students at IU were shocked to see their phones light up with an IU General Alert this past Sunday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The initial shock was that there was an alert at all; \u201cI totally \nforgot there was even a system for this,\u201d remarked one student. However,\n as they got over their surprise at the return of what was thought to be\n an ancient myth, they were blindsided by the details of the safety \nalert \u2013 or, rather, the lack thereof:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIU GENERAL ALERT: Something Happening Somewhere, Probably. Honestly,\n we can barely be assed to figure it out at this point. IUPD is \nshort-staffed as-is, what with the crisis of students thinking they\u2019re \nallowed to park on-campus, so whatever the dangerous situation is, if \nthere even is one, it\u2019s probably best to just assume there\u2019s something \nhappening, and that it\u2019s really, really bad. Stay out of the general \narea until further notice, whenever we get around to it.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Students were left with many questions: What situation? When will \nthere be further notice? Where is the \u201cgeneral area\u201d? How do I pay off \nall these parking tickets? Desperate for answers, some students went to \nIUPD, with little success. \u201cSituation? On or sort-of-near campus? Hell \nif I know, I\u2019m pretty much just a meter maid. Say, you haven\u2019t seen any \ncars near here, have you? They\u2019re pretty much illegal, and I GOTTA get \nthis quota fulfilled.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Eventually, students just accepted that the general area of concern \nwas all of Bloomington, Indiana. IU is quickly working to remedy this \ndangerous situation by evicting as many students from their Bloomington \nproperties as possible, and hope the problem solves itself by the time \nthe Bicentennial Celebration finally happens.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
