{"id":228,"date":"2015-10-28T21:28:00","date_gmt":"2015-10-28T21:28:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/hoosierflipside.com\/?p=228"},"modified":"2016-01-14T19:35:22","modified_gmt":"2016-01-14T19:35:22","slug":"arboretum-dug-up-for-world-war-one-reenactment","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hoosierflipside.com\/index.php\/2015\/10\/28\/arboretum-dug-up-for-world-war-one-reenactment\/","title":{"rendered":"Arboretum Dug Up for World War One Reenactment"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center;\">By Pink Freud<\/p>\n<p>Students, faculty, and several Balkan nation states have been up in arms over the lack of access to the arboretum.\u00a0 In commemoration of the 100<sup>th<\/sup> anniversary of the outbreak of the Great War, the Indiana University Arboretum is being converted into a veritable no-mans-land of trenches, craters, and rubble. With the blessings of the University, the WWI Recreationists\u2019 Club is using the public green space to recreate the mayhem and abject horror of the Battle of Ypres.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019d like to thank the excellent students and faculty at Indiana University for making our perfect nightmare a reality,\u201d said senior Reginald P. Pumberchook, brigadier general of the club \u201cWe\u2019re doing this for all of the IU alumni who served on the Western Front. They would\u2019ve wanted it this way.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The shelling is expected to begin at 0400 hours on the morning of November the 21<sup>st<\/sup>. Students in the Northwest neighborhood should expect to be woken by the sounds of heavy artillery, and the smell of burning flesh.
